Niigata Prefecture Information
9:23 - 11:23 = August 8, 2006 - Mermaid light olive green - 42cm

I am glad to have done this one as there are so many rice fields in Niigata and few manholes with rice fields on them. I saw a nice fireworks show at this river.
6:12 - 7:22 AM = August 16, 2004 - Mermaid - 27cm

They have many great designs in this city, but it was raining and the only manhole I could find under a covering was this one. Some cities, especially in areas that get lots of snow, have covered sidewalks. You can find this design all over Japan, but the top center area is different as that is the city symbol/crest. Each city has their own crest.
11:28 - 1:08 = August 4, 2006 - Mermaid warm gray - 42cm

I didn't particularly like this design but it was the only game in town as I was hoping to get 3 drawings done this day. I was able to reach that goal. This was towards the center of a street which I don't usually do as drivers get upset but I couldn't find this design in a decent place.
10:45 - 12:25 = August 25, 2006 - Canson - 38cm

This was a hot day. On a really hot day I pour water on the manhole before doing the drawing to cool it a little.
Skunk cabbage.
2:45 - 3:45 = August 5, 2006 - Mermaid sky blue - 28cm

This one is of a harp like bridge in the area ( near Niigata city )
5:10 - 6:25 = August 8, 2006 - no name - 33cm

I had driven most of the day without finding another manhole to do when I came across this city just before dark. This summer was perfect for doing drawings as there was almost no rain, just hot sunny days. I often had to drive up into the mountains to find cool enough places to sleep. ( Many days I just sleep in my car as it is cheap and convenient.
2:30 - 5:20 = August 15, 2006 - Watson - 64cm

Nice design with the four seasons: spring flower, summer mountains, fall rice fields, and winter snowflakes. Across from a produce stand where I was able to pick up a watermelon for the Isesaki Johnsons. Hope it was delicious!
7:02 - 9:27 = August 7, 2006 - Mermaid tan - 41cm

The ferry out to Awashima was from near here so I did this one before catching the ferry. Once on the ferry and on the way, I realised I had forgotten to put my memory card back in my camera, so I had a digital camera with no memory and Awashima is a small island with no such stores.
8:47 - 10:07 = August 6, 2006 - MBM - 36cm

I did this one before the morning worship service. After the service and lunch(At most churches in Japan, the people stay and eat lunch together), the pastor and his wife let me take a nap there, and then I drove up the coast to the beautiful rocky coast by Sasagawa Nagare. They also let me spend the night there. Thanks.
3:00 - 4:00 = August 7, 2006 - ? -27 x 35cm

This is a sketch of Tateshima from Hotokezaki. I had rented a bicycle for the day and this was on the back side of the island. I had run out of water and there wasn't any to be found. Of course it was a scorching hot day so I almost got heat exhaustion as the road around the island was very hilly and then I had to do this drawing standing up holding the sketchbook, as there was tall grass in the foreground.. The woman running the inn I was staying at hoped I would give them the drawing but I am not that generous.
1:27 - 2:52 = August 3, 2007 - Canson cloud blue - 35cm

A typhoon was not too far away but fotunately it was just hot and very windy and not raining at the time.
